Donna Jeanne Anderson
Donna Jeanne Anderson passed away in Santa Barbara, California, where she resided for 45 years.
“Tootie”, as she was lovingly called, was born during the raging blizzard on November 11, 1940 at her grandparents’ home in Remsen, Iowa. She was welcomed by her parents, Erwin and Lucille (Nitzschke) Anderson and a brother, Gary.
She began her school years at a country school south of Remsen, then on to elementary school at Quimby, Iowa. She graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1958.
Donna’s mother was killed in a car-train accident in 1945. Her father remarried in 1949. From that union she was given four more siblings who were a constant source of joy and frustration to her.
Tootie attended NBT and worked in Sioux City for a few years. In 1963 she drove her grandmother’s 1949 Plymouth cross country to join her brother, Gary, in California. She was soon employed at the Stanford Research Institute. In 1974 she was recruited for a position with General Research, Inc. in Santa Barbara. She thrived in this environment and steadily rose in professional ranks. She was serving as the company’s Contract Administrator upon her retirement 30 years later.
She was loved and will be remembered by her siblings:
Gary (Terri Ann) Anderson, Linda Wheeler, Dr. Thomas (Beverly) Anderson, Terry Lynn (William) Hurd, and Debra (Max) Velasquez; nieces and nephews: Mark (Kerry) Hurd, Kristin (Cliff) Miles, Belinda and Michelle Velasquez, Lauren and Matthew Wheeler, Megan, Brittany, Tyler and Derek (Roxie) Anderson; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends from across the country.
A private memorial will be held at a future date. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
