Cherokee County Fair nears! ‘Quest To Be The Best’

A year’s hiatus due to the pandemic has not detoured the Cherokee County Fair Board from presenting an exciting, family fun-filled event this year Wednesday through Sunday, July 21-25.

This year’s fair entitled “Quest To Be The Best” features a multitude of enjoyable and interesting events, including traditional daily happenings, kids’ entertainment, and the hilarious Great American Duck Race.

The complete Cherokee County Fair schedule and entertainment acts will be published in its entirety in Monday’s Chronicle Times Fair Special.

Major events in order include Barrel Racing at 7 p.m. Thursday, Truck & Tractor Pull at 7 p.m. Friday, Monster Arm Wrestling Tournament at 4 p.m. Saturday, and the thrilling crowd favorite Demo Derby at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The popular annual Queen Contest is 3 p.m. Sunday with current and 2019 Fair Queen Becca Cowan presiding until Sunday’s winner is announced.

Also, during Saturday’s Demo Derby, Chainsaw Carvings and the 2021 Fair Quilt will be auctioned off at intermission.

Among the daily fare will be 4-H and Family Crafts, Commercial Building vendors, S&R Pony Rides, and J&K Shows Carnival on the Midway afternoon and evenings.

The popular Great American Duck Race will be held at various times each day south of the Midway, including 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Friday, 11:30 a.m., 4 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Great American Duck Race features live Mallard ducks raced on a water track.  You may be one of the lucky ones chosen to hold and release one of the world's fastest mallards into it's racing lane.  Prizes are awarded to all winners. These ducks have been featured on the Tonight Show, Wall Street Journal and People Magazine. It will definitely quack you up!  "You can't watch a duck race without smiling.”

The Bill Riley Talent Show is scheduled for noon Sunday on the Main Stage.

Of course there’s a full menu of traditional County Fair specials, including 4-H and FFA Livestock and Crafts judging, Cavaliers 4-H Club, Little Miss County Fair Queen, Petting Zoo, Diaper Derby, Pedal Tractor Pull, Bike Drawings, Kids Day, Ladies Day, etc.

Ticket prices: Adult season pass $15, children 12 and under $5, age 4 and under free every day. Daily gate price adults 13 and up $6, kids 12 and under $5. Starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, adults $10, kids $5.
