Applications are now being accepted for the 2025-26 student member of the Iowa State Board of Education. This non-voting position offers a unique opportunity for a student to contribute to the state's education policy.
The Governor of Iowa appoints one student annually to serve a one-year term on the board. Eligible students must be full-time, regularly enrolled tenth or eleventh graders in an Iowa school district at the time of application.
The term of the student member runs from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026. The State Board of Education typically meets 12 times during this period, primarily at the Grimes State Office Building in Des Moines.
