The 29th Annual Hanover Festival weekend will kick off two days of festivities on Saturday, Aug. 23, with a Cornhole Tournament and Barbeque Contest, followed by live music that evening. The traditional 29th Annual Hanover Festival will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24. All events are held at Hanover Village, southwest of Alta, at the junction of M27 and C65. If you have never been, this is the year to attend!
Barbeque cook-off Saturday Morning

Cornhole Tournament on Saturday
Back by popular demand, we have added Saturday to the festival weekend. Saturday, Day One, features a Cornhole Tournament from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. with two prize levels. The entry fee for a two-person Cornhole team is $40. Register your cornhole team online at https://forms.gle/PQw4LUPMihtPLQEV7
There will be a bounce house and games for the kids during the day on Saturday, but historical buildings and exhibits will only be open on Sunday. Pop and popcorn will be available both days.
The Noy Kitchen food truck will be on the grounds and open during lunch and dinner hours. The Beer Garden opens at 2 p.m. For wine lovers, Rustic River Winery will offer wine samples and sales starting at 4 p.m.
Enjoy live music from Renegade Soul beginning at 7 p.m. with a $5 admission charge. Renegade Soul is a five-piece band that plays newer contemporary renegade country, traditional country and classic rock.
Join us the next day for Day Two, Sunday, Aug. 24, from noon-6 p.m. for the Annual Hanover Festival. This family-friendly event gives you a chance to explore a charming, restored turn-of-the-20th-century Iowa village and learn about life and work in the rural areas of our past.
Live music under the tent will be a highlight of the event. The JK Country Band will perform for your listening pleasure.
Free games, a potato dig, petting zoo, clown, bounce house, obstacle course and other special activities will keep youngsters entertained. Cornhole games will be available for all ages to enjoy.
Enjoy a brat or burger at The Feed Shed. Don’t forget the best part: ice cream and homemade pie! And … sips of apple cider will be available at the apple press.
Exhibits and working demonstrations will be happening at the blacksmith shop, blacksmith house, mill house, machine shed, barn and sawmill. Displays of early farm equipment and techniques, along with demonstrations of domestic crafts, add interest to the event.
The general store is the “flagship” building on the village grounds, complete with original counters, furnishings, and “original” stories. Special displays feature vintage exhibits, heirlooms, and other intriguing memorabilia from bygone days.
There is a reason that those attending comment, “There’s so much to see and do here.” “My kids love coming here.”
Admission for DAY ONE, Saturday, Aug. 23, will be $10 per person; kids under 12 are free. DAY TWO, Sunday, Aug. 24, admission is $15 per person or $25 for couples, with those 14 and under admitted FREE. Gate admission is cash only, no cards accepted.
