Thursday, July 3 Meeting

What a beautiful July 3rd morning. Gonna get hot, but as dad used to say, “Great corn growing weather”. I also remembering him talking about the 4th of July in 1936. He said they sat and watched the corn slowly die as he winds and heat decimated their crop. Great to have the moisture this year.

Nicky (and maybe Tom helped a bit) provided our early morning breakfast. Wow biscuits and gravy and 10,000 scrambled eggs. Ok, probably only 30 dozen. Wow, thanks Nicky, it was a special treat. You got the touch. Thank you.

The famous Kiwanis bell was rung and the meeting began with the singing of our table prayer led by Banker Les. We sounded like the Norman Tabbercackel choir. Or something like that.

Then we learned a lady had a terrible wreck. When the cops got there she said she was avoiding trees. As soon as she dodged one another appeared. Cop told he there were no trees in the area and she was looking at the air freshener on her mirror. Yikes.

Our speaker for the day was Tom Boothby. He is a big wheel at the sexual offenders unit in Cherokee Iowa. (Home of the Braves.)

He explained how their system works and went into great detail in a number of subject concerning his job. His presentation was awesome. But you were not there so that’s all you get to know. Now let’s see. You get a breakfast that could feed a Clydesdale for $2.00, speakers that can blow your mind, and you stay at home listening to your significant others whining, eating gizzards and lizards. Something not quite right there. Yikes.

Ask any Kiwanian that you know if they think you would like to be part of our group. Bet the answer is positive.

Many of the Kiwanians helped put up flags to celebrate the 4th of July after the meeting. Thank you everyone. Wow, our parade of flags look awesome.

Gotta go. Come visit us next week. Enjoy the holiday. Hugs, hugs, hugs.

NEXT MEETING: Thursday, July 17, at 7 a.m. at Aurelia Community Center.
