Last Spring, a “Dauntless Dozen” Iowa Senators formed and stood together, including Lynn Evans of Aurelia, forged an alliance and stood together against all the king’s horses and all the king’s men. Now, they are being targeted for the audacity of keeping their oaths to the Constitution. The nether region workings of Bruce Rastetter and Summit Carbon Solutions have emerged without pretense. It’s time to shine some light into their ugly amoral activities in pursuit of their holy grail of monopoly control of our ethanol plants and their CO2 emissions.
In February 2024, as a guest speaker at the NorthWest Landowner Association’s National Convention in Bismarck, N.D., I made this statement, “The governors, senators, congressmen and state legislative leaders of North and South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa appear to be wholly owned subsidiaries of Bruce Rastetter and Summit Carbon Solutions!”
A huge applause erupted! My point is, we know. All of us who are sucked into the relentless web of machinations by Rastetter’s Summit lawyers and lobbyists feel the long and deep reach into our lives, our private property, our Constitution and we the taxpayer’s pocketbook.
The NorthWest Landowners Association fought back in court and won in North Dakota — so far.
The entire State of South Dakota mobilized, fought back and won — resoundingly. Iowans have been fighting back now into their fifth year, trying to protect their God-given and Constitutionally-protected right to their land. “No eminent domain for private gain!” is the slogan that captures it all, ringing and resonating throughout the entire State of Iowa.
Going on five years, Iowans have watched their legislators successfully battle to defend their property rights in the Iowa House, only to see each bill summarily killed by Republican leadership in the Iowa Senate. That is until the Dauntless Dozen Republicans senators, led by Senators Lynn Evans and Kevin Alons, banded together to force a vote on House File 639. As passed but subject to the governor’s veto, this bill would have restored the property rights of everyone with the mettle to stand in the way of the Bruce Rastetter led Constitutional rights wrecking ball.
The 20 or so Rastetter Republicans, fearing a vote on HF 639 would expose their chicanery, were determined to block a vote and kill the bill. The Dauntless Dozen held their ground and teamed up with Democrats, in defense of the Constitution, to force a vote on HF 639. This time Rastetter Republicans were outsmarted and vastly out-principled. After a disgusting wailing and gnashing of teeth during the floor fight, HF 639 passed and was sent to the the governor’s desk where Reynolds, taking a queue from her palace guard of 20 or so Senators, vetoed the bill, thoroughly besmirching her otherwise lofty legacy.
Now comes the time of retribution against the Dauntless. Some have been booted off their committees. All but one have lost their seats on the Appropriations Committee, handcuffing them from protecting funding interests of their constituents. A strong attempt to recruit primary opponents was launched in a vindictive effort to recruit candidates to oppose those who fought for our property rights.
We have just learned that freshly-elected Cherokee County Supervisor, Shane Bellefy, has announced he will challenge Senator Lynn Evans, a top leader of the Dauntless Dozen, for his Senate seat in the June primary.
Rastetter’s lieutenants have been grooming Bellefy for months. Among Shane’s groomers are Senators Mike Bousselot, Amy Sinclair and Jack Whitver; also Congressional candidate Joe Mitchell and lead Summit lobbyist Jeff Boeyink. This is the murderer’s row of Rastetter lieutenants. Bellefy is adamant he is not talking directly to Rastetter but his lieutenants are, in fact, a literal conduit. When a candidate tells me he is confident he can raise a lot of money from “friends and associates,” that tells me, in this case, the $ummit promise has been dangled before their eyes.
Experience has given me insight into the tactics and maneuvers used by Summit. They are relentless in their effort to bulldoze away our God-given property rights —for private gain.
Senator Lynn Evans has been equally relentless in defending our rights and keeping his oath to our Constitutions. He has faced a torrent of relentless attacks and proven, beyond question, his fidelity to his constituents and his oath.
Sincerely, Steve King
U.S. Congress Iowa District #4, 2003-2021
