Dear Comrades,
I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your membership in VFW L.A. Wescott Post 2253 and, more importantly, for your continued commitment to serving our Veterans and the Cherokee community. Your military service earned you a place in our organization, but it is your willingness to continue serving after taking off the uniform that makes this post such an important part of our community.
Throughout the year, our post sponsors and participates in events that honor Veterans, support our youth and promote patriotism.
These traditions don’t happen on their own — they happen because members step forward to make them a reality.
Our annual activities include:
In addition to these scheduled events, our Honor Guard continues to represent the Post, and team with members of the American Legion, to provide military funeral honors for our fellow Veterans and their families. These ceremonies are among the most meaningful things we do, ensuring that those who served are honored with the dignity and respect they have earned.
As our post looks toward the future, we’d like to encourage more members to become involved. That doesn’t necessarily mean taking on more work, it can simply mean becoming the point of contact for one event or activity that interests you. When one member oversees an event, they aren’t expected to do everything themselves. Instead, they help organize volunteers, coordinate details and ensure that the tradition continues from year to year.
Sharing these responsibilities helps prevent the workload from falling on just a few members while also giving newer members the opportunity to become involved and help shape the future of our Post. Fresh ideas and new leadership are what will keep Post 2253 strong for years to come.
If there’s an event you’re passionate about, or one you’d simply like to learn more about, I encourage you to reach out to me or mention it at our meetings; the second Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. We’d be happy to help you get started.
Thank you again for your membership, your friendship and your continued dedication to our Veterans and our community. It is an honor to serve alongside each of you.
Respectfully,
Thomas J. Kohn
Commander, VFW Post 2253, Cherokee
