Renewable Energy: A Bipartisan Solution for Energy Security

Posted

In a short number of days, voters will decide the direction for our nation. It is my hope that the next administration continues to support the growth of renewable energy across the country.

While wind and solar energy projects are prominently known for being clean, there are many reasons why investing in renewable energy is good for the entire country. At the local level, renewable energy projects contribute millions in tax revenue which in turn is used to strengthen school districts, improve county roads, and supplement fire departments.

The wind farm in Cherokee County has generated $1.5 million in annual property taxes, with $500,000 allocated to the school district. The project created 150 construction jobs and economic activity for area businesses.

When we support renewable energy growth, we are also supporting energy independence. Plain and simple. The more homegrown energy we have, the less we depend on foreign nations to import energy sources. The wind and sun in our own backgrounds is less expensive and immune to international conflict. Renewable energy provides reliable power to the grid when weather strikes the Midwest.

Not only does renewable energy protect the energy grid, but it also protects farmers who may be struggling with a volatile commodity market. Last year, Iowans received $74 million in land lease payments for diversifying their operations with renewable energy.

Supporting renewable energy is a bipartisan solution to energy independence, security, lower energy costs, and a cleaner future for America.
