Letters to the Editor: A vote for Dawson

Posted

I hope you all realize what an excellent candidate we have for U.S. House Representative of the 4th District in Dave Dawson. He was born and raised in rural Washta in a wonderful family.

Here’s his bio:

After graduating from Iowa State University and law school, Dave worked in Chicago’s legal sector for three years before returning home in 2002 to serve as a prosecutor in the Woodbury County Attorney’s Office.

For nearly two decades, he has prosecuted drug dealers, sex offenders and child abusers, and has twice argued and won cases before the Iowa Supreme Court to protect vulnerable children and strengthen Iowa families. He also served four years in the Iowa House working for Iowans.

I know how deeply he cares about children and families in Iowa. He has spent every weekend this summer and fall criss-crossing his district sponsoring town halls and attending events where he earnestly answered every question asked.

He has earned our respect and our vote and will be the kind of representative and leader we need for Iowa in Washington. Please get online and watch one of the debates if you haven’t. You will be impressed.

I’m voting for Dave Dawson, the best candidate for our district. I hope you will, too.

Connie Ladwig, Lifelong Cherokee County Resident

A PETA viewpoint

The best way to prevent manure from spilling into waterways is to stop eating cows, pigs, chickens and other animals (“DNR investigating feedlot manure spill near Cleghorn,” Oct. 12). Animal agriculture really stinks, and runoff from animal factories is one of the leading causes of river and lake pollution in the U.S.

Animal waste is stored in massive lagoons and sprayed onto fields, polluting the air and poisoning our waterways, sickening humans, and killing marine life. While the meat, egg, and dairy industries should be held accountable for degrading the environment and harming human health as well as animals, everyone should share in the responsibility for cleaning up the planet. We can help simply by choosing vegan foods rather than animal-derived ones. See PETA.org for more information and a free vegan starter kit.
