Alan was born on Nov. 13, 1949, in Le Mars to Lorne (Bob) and Marie (Peck) Sand. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. In 1999 he and Constance (Olson) were married, and they made their home in Cleghorn. He worked in construction until he was injured and had to retire.

Alan loved camping and fishing. He spent a lot of his summers camped near Pickstown, S.D., where he could take his boat out and fish all day. He was also a fanatic about his yard, and spent many hours carefully manicuring his lawn.

When he became ill, he started taking instructions in the Lutheran Church, and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. He truly appreciated all the time that Pastor Kaldahl spent teaching him, as well as his many visits.

Alan will be very much missed by his loving wife Connie and his furry kids, Sammy and Shadow.
