Cynthia R. Rupp, 84, of Marcus passed away at her home on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Timothy Pick will officiate and Deacon Jerry Bertrand will assist. Burial will be in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Marcus. A rosary service will be held on Friday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church followed by visitation with the family present. A vigil prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church on Friday evening. Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee and Marcus are assisting the family with arrangements. Cynthia Harris was born on Feb. 8, 1942, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Raymond and Doris (Waring) Harris. Following her graduation from Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls in 1959, she attended Briar Cliff University in Sioux City for two years.
On Feb. 17, 1962, Cynthia married Mark Rupp in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. They made Omaha their home for 14 years before moving to Marcus and their current home.
While growing up she enjoyed swimming and horse back riding, tennis, ice skating, roller skating, bowling and playing pool. For several years, she was a successful Avon Lady. In 1985, she went back to Briar Cliff to complete her college education and graduated in 1987, with degrees in elementary education and history. She taught junior high for 13 years and was the Director of Religious Education for Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus for 15 years, retiring in 2007.
Cynthia was a member and past president and circle chair of St. Ann's Guild and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, where she was the treasurer. She liked to go to casinos, play games on her computer and enjoyed playing cards with her family. She dearly loved her family and cherished time they were all together, especially for birthdays and holidays. She attended as many of her children's and grandchildren's school and extracurricular events.
Cynthia is survived by her husband Mark Rupp of Marcus; three children: Rae Anne (Joe) Alesch of Marcus; Greg (Liz) Rupp of Crestwood, Ky.; Tom (Renee) Rupp of Orange City; 10 grandchildren: Seph, Kelsey, Chandler, Drew, Derek, Tyler, Allie, Colby, Ryan and Owen; six great-grandchildren; brother Raymond and Linda Harris of Sioux Falls, S.D.; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; also several nieces and nephews.
