Gilbert Theophilus Bremicker Jr, 93, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025.
He was born March 7, 1932, to Gilbert T. and Emogene (Knudsen) Bremicker in Berwyn, Ill.
Gil was a proud graduate of the University of Montana (go Grizzlies) where he met his wife, Kathryn. During and after college, he served in the Army and Reserves. After his service he went to work for Boeing in Seattle, Wash. After a few years, he changed professions to city administration, where he worked as city manager for Normandy Park, Wash.; Bloomington, Minn.; and Blaine, Minn. In 1976, he accepted a job in Cherokee as their first city administrator and retired there in 1997.
During his retirement, he was a substitute teacher for Cherokee High School which he loved and did until he retired at the age of 80. He also served on the Siouxland Economic Development Board. He was an active member of the many churches that he attended, serving as Deacon, Elder and teaching Sunday School. He was also an active member of the church choir.
Gil will be remembered for his goodness, kind heart and willingness to help others; and for his love of history, especially Lewis and Clark, Chief Dewey Beard (whom he met as a child) and mostly family history.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Kathy; daughter Stephanie; son Douglas (Angi); grandchildren: Mary, Jennifer, Michelle, Eric, Rachel, Irie and their spouses; seven great-grandchildren; his sister Kristen Bremicker; and sister-in-law Patricia Bremicker.
Visitation will be held at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, Ohio, on Sept. 5, from 4-7 pm. The funeral will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee on Sept. 6, at 10 am. Internment will be in Cherokee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
