Larry Joseph Pitts, the son of Joseph and Alice (Tracey) Pitts, was born Sept. 9, 1943, at home in rural Cherokee County. His childhood years were spent on the family farm. He attended middle school at Maryhill Visitation Catholic School and later graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1962.
Larry’s passion was farming. He raised hogs and cattle for many years and farmed the same home farm since 1968. Prior to that he helped several area farmers as a farm hand.
Larry was also known as the “Fonz” and also the slowest driver on the road. He enjoyed being the tug of war coach for Maryhill. In his free time, Larry enjoyed all the time spent with his family and friends, including the family farm 150 year celebration this past summer, and was fortunate to harvest his last crop this past fall.
